The HEA panels consist of steel cables wound to form diamond-shaped meshes. The cables are fixed at the intersection points by 3.0 mm diameter steel wires with a high strength and durability for which the pull-out strength has been calculated.
The performance of the HEA panel, which is tested in the laboratory and on site, is much greater than that of the panels made with traditional bosses. Thanks to its very high tensile strength, the panel is used successfully for the consolidation of very large single rock blocks and the facing of rock masses with a dense jointing system. The HEA panel is recommended in soil nailing as a flexible structural facing where a low deformation due to puncturing and, at the same time, flexibility of the mesh is required.
