Maccaferri has developed Steelgrid, a new double-twist mesh with steel wire reinforcement ropes firmly woven inside the mesh itself. The product lies in an intermediate position between traditional steel wire meshes and cable mesh panels, and it is ideal for the consolidation of a large number of settlement types. Steelgrid therefore represents a new standard for the protection of rock slopes.
The Steelgrid MO (mono-oriented) geocomposite has the 8 mm diameter steel cables placed longitudinally to the roll as the edging wire and also at the centre of the roll.
Maccaferri has also developed Steelgrid BO (bi-oriented); these geocomposites are typically used in surface protections, since, as they are made by weaving steel wires and cables, they have a greater deformation rigidity compared with traditional protection systems, thereby increasing the level of safety.
The Steelgrid BO geocomposites have the 8 mm diameter steel cables placed longitudinally to the roll as the edging wire and also at the centre of the roll; transversally they are placed inside the double twists and closed around the slot-shaped edging cables using aluminium sleeves.
